Dear Parents/Carers
Who can believe that we are into the third month of the new year already. The children have all settled back into working with a positive attitude to school and they all seemed to enjoy our recent HATS FOR HAITI morning where the magnificent sum of £732.72 was raised.
Eco School Committee
The work of the Eco School Committee goes from strength to strength with more recycling and composting being undertaken every week. The pupils are very keen to make us as green a school as possible and hopefully before the end of this session we will be able to apply for our Silver Award. As the weather improves it is hoped our gardening group organized by parents, Helen Kennedy, Nicky Jeyes and Helen Gardner will get underway again.
On Thursday, 25 February this years and last years Eco Committee met the Duke of Edinburgh on his visit to Broughton St Marys Church. The group stood at the side of the church where they are going to be involved in some planting.
Cake Sale
As part of P7s work on R.M.E. they will be holding a cake sale on Thursday 4th
and Friday 5th March with the money also going to the Haiti Appeal. The pupils are going to be baking in school and at home for the sale. The cakes will cost 20p each and I hope everyone will be able to enjoy a cake on these two days.
Presentation for Parents
On Wednesday, 17 March (please note the change of date) we are lucky to have the renowned author and broadcaster Sue Palmer visiting the school to speak to parents. Her book Toxic Childhood How the Modern World is Damaging our Children and What We Can Do About It is very interesting and a must for everyone who cares about the young people of our world. She is an excellent speaker and I am sure you would find her presentation very interesting and informative. Please come along and join the staff at this event. Refreshments will be served. This is an adult only event but if you are unable to find childcare please telephone the school and speak to Mr Devine or Mrs Stewart as we may be able to offer crèche facilities.
Open Day
We are holding an Open Day for all parents and carers on Tuesday 9th March. This is an opportunity for you to come into school and visit any class (not just the class your child(ren) are in) to see what really does go on in a modern day classroom. The times are: 10.30-12.00 and 1.30-3.00. We hope to see as many of you as possible on that day. There will also be a Broughton Café in the Hall from 12.00 1.30. Please come along have lunch and look at the Book Fair. Donations of baking would be much appreciated and these can be handed into school the school office on the 9th.
Book Fair
To coincide with World Book Day we will be holding a Book Fair on Monday, 8th, Tuesday, 9th and Wednesday, 10th March. It will be open on our Open Day all day so that you can drop in at any time during school hours. Pupils will be given a World Book Day voucher which can be used at the Book Fair and they will be given the opportunity to visit with their class to look at and buy any books they would like.
We are also hoping to have a Second-Hand Childrens Book Sale on this day so if you have any childrens books at home that are in good condition please send them into school as soon as possible.
Blue Slip Reward
Our reward for pupils who have no blue slips (or less than four) this term will be a fun swimming session in our pool. More details of when your child will have his/ her swimming session will be sent out
nearer the time. At the moment almost all pupils will be lucky enough to earn this reward.
Lateness
Before the February holiday a note was kept of the names of the children who arrived after the bell in the morning and I am sorry to say that on most mornings more than 5% of our pupils were late. It was often the same pupils. ,PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR CHILD ARRIVES ON TIME FOR SCHOOL.
